Art Travels

Dali Theatre-Museum - Figueres

Wild strange place, just as Dali once was. Usually, it is very busy there. People come by local trains and busses from Barcelona, making it a day trip. There is no need to spend a whole day in the museum, two to three hours is plenty of time to walk through this multilevel place. The rest of the day it is possible to visit some other interesting places in the area or have a great lunch in some of the restaurants in nearby streets.

Salvador Dali

Composicion Satirica La Danza de Matisse - 1923

Museo de Nacional del Prado - Madrid

Prado is one of the greatest museums in the World. Painters like  Velázquez, Sorolla, El Greco are here “at home”. Great selection of Rubens works. It is unbelievable how many people are waiting to enter the museo at the opening hour. Busses of kids, tourists of all types, locals, ..all making a human river ready to storm the place. It is worth being there early. You will be stopped for security check up, but once you go through there you are on your own. Don’t leave before you see Diego’s “Las meninas“.

El Greco Museum - Toledo

Toledo is a town everyone should visit once. Probably the biggest concentration of stores selling medieval stuff, including shields, swords helmets.. Also, beautiful old medieval town streets, where pedestrians are mingling with cars on the same narrow streets where a car and a person can hardly fit across at once. Well worth to visit one of the restaurants, for a sunning architecture and a great paella.

El Greco house - Toledo

A great selection of El Greco's paintings of saints is inside.

Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes - Buenos Aires

What a treat, an art jewel of southern hemisphere. Happened to be there when Rodin exhibition was happening. It is a very nice place, easily navigated with a world class collection. There you will find impressionists such as Monet, Pissarro, Gaugin or Degas, as well as old masters like Rembrandt and local heroes like Quinquela Martin. And after treating yourself to this art infusion, why not go for a lunch in nearby Recoleta neighborhood

Van Gogh

Le Moulin de la Galette - 1886

Casapueblo - Maldonaldo, Punta Ballena

What a romantic place. Casapueblo is a building constructed by the Uruguayan artist Carlos Páez Vilaró.  He built it as his life project. The house is a gallery,  a hotel, a store and a cafe. It features 13 floors and terraces for visitors to enjoy. Every day at predetermined time, you can enjoy the view of the best sunset in the world, along with the show called Sun Ceremony which features the artist’s voice reciting a poem dedicated to the Sun.
